Using the 70:20:10 framework as a recognised and effective model for personal development, where 70% is learnt through experience, 20% is learnt through others, and 10% through formal training, The Future Group sits within the 20%, providing an ideal environment for members to learn not just from the experts, but also from each other.


Our comprehensive programme is broken down into three core components:


1. The Skills

Human skills; the skills that CEOs value the most, but are hardest to find. Our workshops will develop skills like communication, negotiation, presentation, charisma – the things that make you stand out from the crowd.

2. The Knowledge

How do you manage an increasingly cross-cultural workforce? How do you cope with and manage organisational change? How do you interact with Whitehall? With support from industry experts, these are the types of question we will help to answer.

3. The Test

Collaboration is key. Our programme culminates with a live 24-hour business challenge, requiring the group to work together and put everything they have learned to the test. After all, diamonds are formed under pressure.

  • Workshop 1
    Part 1: Understanding strategic leadership
    Part 2: Knowing your Strengths & applying them to your Leadership Style


    The first part of the workshop will introduce the group to the three levels of leadership: Strategic, Operational and Tactical; and their dimensional requirements. The delegates will then undergo individual assessments to identify their strengths and will learn how to apply these attributes to enhancing their own personal leadership style.

  • Workshop 2
    Effective Communication for Influencers


    Run by Thomson Reuters Foundation – Working with recognised communication experts, delegates will learn how to; prepare and deliver key client messages, combine emotion and reason to create powerful presentations, and take control in challenging situations.

  • Workshop 3
    Creative thinking and problem solving


    Run by The Guardian – The workshop will boost delegates’ entrepreneurial, innovation and problem-solving skills. The delegates will learn how to make the most out of all the opportunities they encounter on a daily basis, how to overcome strategic challenges and how to react to unexpected situations.

  • Workshop 4
    Interacting with Whitehall


    Lead by a panel of private and public sector leaders, the group will work together to tackle a series of case studies designed to provide the candidates with a better understanding of the importance of both sides of the UK economy.

    Understanding Corporate Finance


    In this workshop delegates will grapple with the principles of corporate finance to help them understand how to maximise a company's value by making good decisions about investment, financing and dividends (in other words, how businesses should allocate scarce resources to minimise expenses and maximise revenues).

  • Workshop 6
    Media Training – Understand the Media and Using Journalism to Your Advantage


    Run by Thomson Reuters Foundation – Working with the world’s leading media agency, this workshop will explore how to develop memorable media messages, effectively prepare for interviews and press conferences, and handle tough questions and difficult reporters.

  • Workshop 7
    Organisational Culture – Managing a Diverse Workforce


    This workshop will offer valuable insights into how behaviour and attitudes vary by culture. Drawing from best practice and real examples, the delegates will be able to recognise differences in verbal and non-verbal communication and understand differing attitudes towards hierarchy.

  • Workshop 8
    Business ethics and corporate governance


    The group will explore business ethics and best practice based on real case studies and examples on how to make ethics policies and programmes effective. The workshop will offer insights into why business ethics are important for a successful business, what the major ethical challenges faced by organisations are, and how to embed good practice into your business model.

  • Workshop 9
    Digital transformation - How to adapt your business model and leadership style in a continuously changing environment


    Run by Moorhouse Consulting – Drawing upon insights from a leading change management consulting firm, the group will explore in more detail the broad topic of organisational change at the intersection of technological and business innovation. For example, what forces are driving change? How can you adapt your business model to disruptive technology? And how can you reduce organisational cost whilst maximising the effectiveness of the change?

  • Workshop 10
    Resilience, Agility and Leadership through uncertainty


    Run by Inspirational Development Group – The programme will culminate with a team offsite development workshop at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Over the course of two days, delegates will be asked to solve a live business challenge, putting to the test the full range of skills and knowledge that they have developed over the previous ten months.
